Beaverbrook

Sunday, September 18, 2022 - 14:00 to 15:30

Beaverbrook represents one of the first and the most complete examples in Canada of a fully designed community based on 20th century urban planning concepts. Bill Teron created Beaverbrook in the mid-1960's after touring new garden cities in Finland, Sweden, Scotland and the USA and consulting with such prominent modern architects as Arthur Erickson, Irving Grossman and Norbert Schoenaur. He envisioned Beaverbrook as a complete "Garden City" where Nature and green space make up 40 percent of the plan.

The walk will take you along pathways that link distinct Mid-Century Modern housing clusters, community buildings, and numerous small parks that make up the key elements of the planned garden community of Beaverbrook (originally intended to be part of the whole garden City of Kanata).

GUIDE: Neil Thomson is President of the Kanata Beaverbrook Community Association and a long-time resident of the neighbourhood.
